Since the original film was released in 1974, there have been several other sequels to and remakes of the horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Now, Netflix is revamping the franchise with a direct sequel.
Nearly 50 years after Leatherface’s infamous killing spree, a group of young people moves into the nearly abandoned town of Harlow, Texas to start a business venture and a new life. The group includes Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson). As the trailer shows, these newcomers are blissfully unaware of the area’s history, and they’re in for a rude awakening. Leatherface (Mark Burnham) has been watching them, and when they accidentally wander his home, he begins another reign of terror.
Meanwhile, Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré), the only survivor of Leatherface’s original massacre, gets a call that he has come out of hiding. She goes to Harlow determined to get revenge. The rest of the trailer shows Leatherface hunting down his new victims while Sally, Melody, and Lila attempt to survive.
Like the latest installments in the Scream and Halloween franchises, Texas Chainsaw Massacre brings back the survivors of the original to join a new generation to defeat the killer. Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be available to stream on Netflix on February 18.
