Very loosely based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan, the horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer hit theaters in 1997. The movie was a quintessential slasher of its time, leaning into rigid character stereotypes, heavy moralization, and an unreasonably sturdy killer.
The sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, premiered one year later in 1998, and the film very clearly wanted to compete with the wit and humor of the Scream franchise—and largely failed. Though the film really hasn't aged well, it's a campy, nonsensical follow-up that's still fun to watch (especially if you have a drink in hand).
The third film in the franchise came out in 2006, but we don't really talk about that one…
However, the 2025 reboot of the franchise is an entertaining, terrifying modernization that hits the nail right on the head. Written, directed, and acted with empathy, the characters are engaging, and the stakes are always high.
The new release maintains the perfect balance of comedy and fear, nostalgia and immediacy. It's a horror flick I'd watch again and again—and one I'm crossing my fingers will get a sequel of its own.
I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) is available to rent or buy online now, but if watching the film on repeat isn't enough for you, you're probably looking for a way to feel like you're in the franchise.
Luckily for you, we've consulted with the stars, and we can tell you exactly who you'd be. Here is the I Know What You Did Last Summer character you'd be based on your zodiac sign.
But proceed with caution, there are spoilers—and hook-handed killers—ahead.
Aries (March 21-April 19)
Teddy Spencer

Teddy Spencer (Tyriq Withers) is a flawed character, certainly, but that doesn't mean he's without his redeeming qualities.
His foolish antics were the catalyst for the events of the 2025 film, and it was his father's connections that buried the group's involvement. Though in the aftermath he became somewhat of a hotheaded alcoholic, that never stopped him from keeping Danica safe, even if they weren't together anymore.
Like an Aries, Teddy is driven by courage and physicality. As moody as they are passionate, this sign of the ram is known for being impulsive and prone to boredom if they're not engaged in a physical challenge.
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Ray Bronson

One of the main characters in the original 1997 film, Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.) made a return to both the 1998 sequel and the 2025 reboot.
A poor fisherman in the seaside town of Southport, Ray has always been stuck in his ways, be it insisting his girlfriend visit their hometown in the wake of tragedy or demanding that people hold onto the memory of said tragedy.
He's always been a devoted individual, but it seems that overtime his devotion shifted from Julie to the ache of The Fisherman's killings.
Like a true Taurus, Ray is reliable enough to always look after Stevie, and stubborn enough to always think what he's doing is right. Like the sign of the Bull, he's also patient, uncompromising, and keen on working with his hands…
Gemini (May 21-June 21)
Ava Brucks

Ava Brucks (Chase Sui Wonders) is the central protagonist of the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, and she's one of the more compelling characters.
She appears to be the most affected by the cover-up, pulling away from her friends and spiraling in on herself in grief. At the same time, she's also the one who is most willing to face The Fisherman head-on.
Though she's made her mistakes, she is a caring and considerate friend to Danica when she can put her trauma aside. And she's a force to be reckoned with on top of it all.
Like Ava, Geminis can be a bit flighty, there one second and gone the next, indecisive about pretty much everything. But this airy nature also means they adapt quickly to any situation—a useful trait when there's a crafty serial killer afoot.
Also like the sign of the Twins, Ava is an affectionate individual who rejects constraints.
Cancer (June 22-July 22)
Milo Griffin

Like any other water sign, Cancers have a soft, emotional center. This sign of the Crab can be very susceptible to insecurity, but their hard outer shell means they can put on a brave face and keep trying even in the face of failure.
Milo Griffin (Jonah Hauer-King) has that famous Cancer loyalty, as evidenced by the fact he's still holding a torch for his high school girlfriend, Ava—both before and after the accident on the road. Unfortunately, he let's himself get a little too in his head before he can make a move on his dream girl.
In true Cancer fashion, he rallies with a good self pep talk. Unfortunately, as he didn't have a literal hard shell to keep himself safe, his evening didn't end as he'd hoped…
Leo (July 23-August 22)
Tyler Trevino

Tyler Trevino (Gabriette) is the host of a true crime podcast, Live Laugh Slaughter. When she comes to Southport to look back on the murders of '97, she finds that the trouble in town is a lot more current than she thought.
Anyone who hosts a podcast of any kind is likely to enjoy the limelight, and that means Tyler has something in common with Leos, the fire sign that loves to feel like a star.
But her career choice also means she's creative like the sign of the Lion, and since she brought in some great moments of comedic relief, we know she has their great sense of humor, too.
Of course, Tyler was also self-centered enough to dig into past tragedy for her own personal enjoyment, and arrogant enough to think she could survive the ordeal. But no star sign is perfect.
Virgo (August 23-September 22)
Julie James

Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) isn't an iconic Final Girl for nothing.
In the original film, Julie was easy to root for because she was the one who pushed to tell the truth, signaling to viewers that she's kind and honest.
But she was also able to see all the little details when she and her friends were dropped into trouble, and pieced those details together to rise as a survivor.
Julie must have Virgo in her chart, because this earth sign is analytical, bright, and faithful through and through. This sign is also known for being judgmental, and Julie makes no attempts to hide what she thinks of her friend's—and her own—bad choices.
Plus, in true Virgo fashion, Julie seems incapable of reaching out for help, internalizing her problems and taking them on for her own.
Libra (September 23-October 22)
Stevie Ward

Stevie Ward (Sarah Pidgeon) has had a tough go of things, and she carries a chip on her shoulder bigger than most. It's hard to say what path she might have taken without the mentorship of Ray, but it's safe to say her rules for right and wrong are skewed, regardless.
Still, she's a pretty good ringer for a Libra, because just because this air sign believes in justice and fairness, doesn't mean they have a sane way of doling out their moral lessons. This star sign is notorious for holding a grudge, after all.
Just like when Stevie put on a nice face for Danica, Libras can be extremely cooperative individuals. But, also like Stevie, they can give into self-pity easily, which definitely puts some bias in their fairness meter.
Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
Barry Cox

Barry Cox (Ryan Phillippe) is pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a 90s horror movie jock: strong, reckless, and a little snotty. His drunken antics are the reason he and his friends get into their mess in the first place, and he's the most insistent about covering up the truth.
Like Barry, Scorpios can be very persuasive, but that charisma can easily give way to manipulation. And when they don't get what they want, they tend towards violence.
But this sign of the Scorpion's sting isn't always a bad thing. Like Barry, Scorpios are powerful, brave, and protective of their friends.
It seems, in the end, he just wasn't quite powerful enough…
Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
Helen Shivers

Helen Shivers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) isn't just the Croaker Queen, she's the Scream Queen of many hearts—including mine.
Helen had big dreams of moving to New York City to become an actress, but that shiny future was derailed by that pesky manslaughter incident. Like a Sagittarius, Helen always reached for big things, but this fire sign has a tendency to burn themselves with big ideas built on poor planning.
Though she's stuck in her hometown, like a true wild flame of a Sagittarius, she rejects the idea of being managed or contained—exemplified in how she fights like hell against the Fisherman.
Even her memory can't be contained, bleeding into the reboot in an eerie dream sequence. In it, she encapsulates that blunt honesty the sign of the Archer is famous for.
Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
Ben Willis

Uh oh, sorry Sea Goats. You've been dubbed “Most Likely to be a Salty Serial Killer.”
Capricorns are all about control and discipline, and no one in the franchise clings to that more than Ben Willis (Muse Watson) himself. This immovable earth sign can be a real know-it-all, so naturally, we're going to see some similarities in a man who knows what you did last summer (and still knows).
This zodiac sign, on its worst days, can be unforgiving and hateful towards pretty much everything, which is the perfect recipe for a mysterious murderer. But they love family more than anything else, a virtue which was twisted in Ben Willis to start this whole tragedy in the first place.
Aquarius (January 20-February 18)
Karla Wilson

Karla Wilson (Brandy Norwood) brought some fun back into Julie's life, even if their adventure together didn't turn out as they'd hoped. She's a strong young woman who goes for the things she wants, and always encourages Julie to do the same.
The air sign of Aquarius seems like a perfect fit for Karla, as they are independent, helpful individuals who put a lot of value in having a good time with friends.
The sign of the Water Bearer also tends to be uncompromising fighters who have a deep distaste for limitations.
Though this is more behind-the-scenes trivia than characterization, actress Brandy actually stipulated in her contract that her character couldn't die, so as to subvert the trope of Black people dying quickly in movies, and that's pretty Aquarian, to me.
Pisces (February 19-March 20)
Danica Richards

Danica Richards (Madelyn Cline) is a character so beloved that, after initial screen tests, reshoots had to be done to change the film's ending to bring her back to life.
As detached from the reality around her as she is emotionally delicate, Danica copes with the tragedy in her life by leaning hard into spirituality and metaphysics. While she has a nasty habit of trusting the wrong people, she's also pretty clever and resourceful in evading the Fisherman.
Pisces are soft and intuitive people, known for being most closely linked to spirituality. Though they possess deep wisdom, they can be overly trusting.
The sign of the fish also loves love above all else, and Danica's commitment to getting back on the romantic horse is very apparent throughout the film.
