After the dismembered body of a 79-year-old woman was found in St. Petersburg, Russia, police have determined the victim was just one of many for a newly identified serial killer called “Granny Ripper.”
According to the Daily Mail, the suspect is 68-year-old Tamara Samsonova, who stands accused of murdering at least 10 people in the last 20 years—and investigators have the diaries to prove it!
Samsonova, a former hotel worker, is accused of beheading and dismembering her victims, and then scattering their body parts all over the city.
At her home, police found a knife, a saw, and blood spots in the bathroom.
They also uncovered black magic and astrology books, in addition to journals—written in Russian, German, and English—which outlined all her disturbing extra-curricular activities.
Her accounts of various murders include details from a number of unsolved cases where victims were dismembered and their body parts were packed and scattered around town.
Samsonova was detained this week after incriminating CCTV footage surfaced of her lugging around a plastic bag filled with body parts.
Police believe the body parts in that bag belonged to 79-year-old Valentina Ulanova, for whom Samsova was a caregiver. They found Ulanova’s headless body near a pond on Dimitrova Street.
Samsonova is also believed to be involved in various other murders, including that of a 44-year-old male tenant who was renting a room from Samsonova in 2003. Oh, and her own husband, who was reported missing in 2005, but whose body was never found.
The elderly suspect has admitted to the crimes, but has yet to explain any additional details regarding each individual murder.
According to a source close to the investigation, “She’s either much more stupid, or much smarter, than she seems.”
Let this be a lesson to us all: Never underestimate the elderly.
