Prepare to return to Manderley. Netflix just released the trailer for Rebecca, offering a captivating look at its upcoming adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's eternal gothic novel of the same name.
Rebecca is a classic that has previously been adapted by Alfred Hitchcock into a highly praised film. Netflix’s version of the psychological thriller unravels all of Rebecca’s twists and turns through a more modern lens.

Rebecca tells the story of a young woman (played by Lily James) who falls in love and marries a wealthy widower, Maxim de Winter (played by Armie Hammer). She soon discovers, however, that darkness gathers at the edges of her grand new arrangement. After getting married and moving to Maxim’s Manderley estate, the new Mrs. de Winter becomes unsettled by questions about Maxim’s late first wife. The memory of Maxim’s deceased spouse haunts the estate and their relationship, as the newly married Mrs. de Winter struggles to keep secrets and the shadows of the past from upending her life.

The spellbinding trailer released by Netflix starts off light and airy, filled with scenes of romantic coastal drives and afternoons spent on beautiful beaches. Yet the mood flips upon the mention of marriage and Manderley. The trailer turns dark and ominous, as the newly married Mrs. de Winter finds doubt creeping in from all directions. She questions the mystery surrounding the death of Maxim’s first wife, with the trailer ending abruptly just as the tension hits a fever-pitch.
Directed by horror and thriller filmmaker Ben Wheatley (Kill List, A Field in England) and starring Armie Hammer, Lily James, and Kristen Scott Thomas as Mrs. Danvers, Rebecca will hit Netflix on October 21. Watch the trailer below—and keep your loved ones close.
