The release of Morbius has been delayed once again. Though it was originally scheduled to hit theaters in July of 2020, Morbius’ release was pushed back to March of 2021. However, this date has also been altered, with Sony now planning the horror film's release for January 21, 2022, according to Screen Rant.
While the series of delays–a result of the Covid-19 pandemic–have kept fans from seeing Morbius, they have also built up the suspense. Now, with many more months to wait, the vampire thriller is sure to be a must see ... when it finally comes out.

With its forlorn and unnerving tone, Morbius follows the long-suffering scientist Michael Morbius, who undergoes a radical treatment of his own creation. Born with a rare blood disorder, Morbius has spent his whole life wracked in pain. But when his disorder leaves him not just weakened, but on the verge of dying, he dedicates himself entirely to developing a cure.
The culmination of years of research, Morbius’ efforts yield a life-saving treatment that restores his health. Though it originally seems a miraculous feat of medicine, Morbius’ supposed cure begins to manifest troublesome side effects. Along with unmatched levels of speed and strength and a sense of echolocation common among bats, Morbius also develops an insatiable appetite for blood. Having morphed into something not quite human, Morbius more closely resembles a vampire.

With the introduction of Venom and the addition of Morbius, Sony is expanding a universe centered on secondary Spider-Man characters. Though Sony’s franchise is only in its beginning phases, some have speculated that characters like Black Cat, Nightwatch, Kraven the Hunter, and Silver Sable might also become the focus of future films in Sony’s Universe.
While these characters' prospects remain uncertain, Venom will be receiving a sequel. Venom: Let There Be Carnage is currently scheduled to be released in June of 2021, though if Morbius is any indication, its release date could be subject to change.
Though there is still plenty to keep tabs on in Sony's Marvel Universe, there is also plenty to look forward to– and Jared Leto's dark and creepy Morbius is at the top of our list.
