The Elevator Game will bring new life to the haunting urban legend of the same name. Originating in Korea and spreading through the internet, the elevator game centers on a series of rituals, which according to some on Youtube and Reddit, allow elevator passengers to enter another dimension. However, those familiar with the eerie game are quick to share all sorts of stark warnings and chilling stories.
One of the more paralyzing stories surrounding the elevator game centers on speculation about Elisa Lam’s February 2013 death. Some have gone so far as to link her death in the Cecil Hotel to the mysterious game, citing unsettling footage that showed Lam in the hotel's elevator the night she disappeared.
However, the questions around Elisa Lam’s case goes far beyond her experiences in the elevator. Authorities found Lam’s body in a water tank on the roof of the Cecil Hotel, which has been home to a variety of mysterious deaths throughout its history. While her death was ruled an accidental drowning, many question the bizarre circumstances of her death, as well as the dark history of the Cecil Hotel. Even Netflix has dug into her case, which is the subject of their upcoming docuseries Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel.

Drawing on mysteries and online lore, The Elevator Game crafts a chilling story. With the strange and unnerving game forming the central premise, the new film revolves around one teenager’s horrifying experience.
After discovering his sister took part in the elevator game the night she disappeared, Dale dives into his own search after her. But he quickly finds the game to be far more terrifying than he could have imagined, as he encounters “The Woman on the 5th Floor” and other unexplainable phenomena.
The film will be directed by Michael Goi, who is well-known for his work on American Horror Story as well as his extremely troubling movie Megan is Missing, recently made popular through TikTok. An expert when it comes to horror, Goi intends to create lastings fears with The Elevator Game. Sharing his vision, Goi explained “what Psycho did for showers, The Elevator Game will do for lifts.
