The highly-anticipated historical horror drama series Lovecraft Country is set to premiere on HBO this August—and we now have our first look at the show via a bone-chilling new trailer. Based on the popular novel of the same name by Matt Ruff, this monstrous new show is created by Underground's Misha Green, Bad Robot mastermind J.J. Abrams, and horror writer, director, and producer Jordan Peele. It follows a young African-American man, Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors), who joins forces with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to track down Atticus's missing father (Michael K. Williams). Set in the 1950s, the trio must navigate the vile bigotry and racism that permeates Jim Crow America. They must also do battle with cosmic creatures and soul-swallowing monsters ripped straight from an H.P. Lovecraft horror tale.
