The month of June brings with it some incredible things: summer heat, the end of school, ripe strawberries, the observance of Juneteenth, and of course, Pride Month.
But the slate of June horror book releases is also something to celebrate. There are a lot of scares hitting the shelves this month, and some of them have me especially eager to put on my reading glasses.
While I love horror books big and small, there's always been a special place in my heart for indie horror books. And we at The Lineup want to do our part to spotlight our favorites!
From surreal scares to familial curses, here are our most anticipated horror books from indie and small presses this June.

I Can Fix Her
When Johnny sees her ex, Alice, at a local cafe, she can't shake the feeling that she's been here before. Though she's still smarting from getting ghosted after their breakup, Johnny can't resist the pull of a second chance.
Alice invites Johnny back to her place, where the two exchange sentimental promises. But after a wonderful night together, the morning proves that they are still the same women they were the last time around.
But, oddly enough, the dog has doubled in size…
Throughout the week, the world around them changes in more and more bizarre ways. Are Johnny and Alice as capable of change as everything else seems to be?
Or is their relationship—and the bounds of reality itself—on a path of implosion?
This book is available now from CLASH Books.

Awakened
Science may have gone too far this time. In an effort to make humans more productive, a chip was created to be placed into brains to remove the need to sleep.
It may have given people more time in the day, but they lost so much more. Humanity has transformed into the Sleepless, feral monsters that bring horror to a collapsing civilization.
A small group of scientists who never had the chip installed are now trapped in the Tower of London. As guilt eats away at them for the new world they've created, they search desperately for a cure.
Then two survivors arrive at their door…
This book is now available for pre-order, and will be released on June 10th by Angry Robot!

I Gave You Eyes and You Looked Toward Darkness
In the rugged Catalonia mountain range known as the Guilleries, the land is inhabited by wolf hunters, ne'er-do-wells, ghosts, and demons. In one farmhouse known as Mas Clavell, a remarkably old woman lies on her deathbed.
As family and caretakers pass through to tend to her, all of the women who have ever lived and died in Mas Clavell wait for her to join them. They've got a party planned just for her.
The sun sets, and four centuries' worth of stories begin to unravel as food and laughter fill the home. Everything begins with the matriarch, Joana.
Joana was once desperate for a husband—a man who could provide, a “full man”. To get one, she summoned the devil and struck a bargain: her soul for a man to marry.
On her wedding day, Joana discovered that her husband was missing a toe, lost to a confrontation with wolves. This let her exploit a loophole in her bargain, opening a door to a complicated web of consequences…

Glass Girls
Alice Haserot really thought she had outrun the curse. For 16 years, she isolated herself from her family and the ghosts she conjured forth.
But the past always catches up.
Alice finds out she's pregnant, and soon after, her estranged sister, Bronwyn, knocks on her door. Her careful new life begins to crumble as her sister comes with a desperate ultimatum.
One of Bronwyn's daughters is trying to possess the other, and Alice is the only one who can save them. If she doesn't, Bronwyn will give away her location to their abusive mother.
This book is now available for pre-order, and will be released on June 24th by Zando!
