Your perfect horror match awaits.

The second season of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday debuted earlier this fall, and needless to say, it’s a very morbid good time.

If you’re a fan of the show like I am, then maybe you’ve got a favorite character or two.

In that case, allow me to suggest a horror or dark fantasy book that will pair perfectly with the Wednesday cast you know so well.

Just be sure to leave the nightstand light on for Thing. He enjoys a good read too.

If you’re drawn to the ghostly aura of Rosaline Rotwood…

… then you should spend some time with How to Fake a Haunting by Christa Carmen

Lady Gaga made a fantastic guest appearance in the second season of Wednesday, playing Rosaline Rotwood, a ghostly figure that makes a deal with Wednesday that’s more than she bargained for.

When it comes to phantoms and getting way more than you expect, Christa Carmen’s How to Fake a Haunting shows you exactly how much a make-believe haunting can go wrong when you accidentally summon some ghosts of your own.

A painful and beautiful tale, Carmen’s third novel is sure to get under your skin in all the best ways.

If you vibe with the siren song of Bianca…

… then you should check out A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow

Bianca is among the most complex characters on the show, with a haunting back story about how she and her mother got wrapped up in a toxic cult.

If you always find yourself rooting for Bianca (and honestly, who isn’t a fan?), then A Song Below Water, which is currently on my TBR list, sounds like an absolutely perfect match.

Both Bianca and Song’s protagonist Tavia must contend with what it means to be a siren in a world that doesn’t approve of them.

Wednesday is devoted to its outcast characters, and you can easily imagine A Song Below Water being on Nevermore Academy’s recommended reading list, so be sure to put this one on your radar ASAP.

If you enjoy a little dark romance in your life like Morticia…

… then you should fall in love The Pink Agave Motel & Other Stories by V. Castro

In Season Two, we learn that Morticia Addams moonlights as a gothic romance writer, much to her daughter’s dismay.

If you want something a little spooky yet brimming with dark romance, then look no further than V. Castro and her latest collection, The Pink Agave Motel & Other Stories.

Released earlier this year from Clash Books, the tales in the table of contents explore the sensual and the unsettling in equal measure, all with a fierce, feminist twist.

When you’re finished with it, it will be easy to imagine how this book would most definitely be Morticia-approved.

If you adore newcomer Agnes and her disturbing devotion…

… then you should luxuriate in Love for Slaughter by Sara Tantlinger

Without a doubt, the best addition in Season Two is the character of Agnes. Her unwavering devotion to Wednesday is one of the highlights of the recent episodes, especially with how far she’ll go to prove her loyalty.

If you’re seeking a book that explores the darker sides of love and obsession, then look no further than Sara Tantlinger’s debut poetry collection, Love for Slaughter.

Packed to the brim with images of love, longing, and skin-crawling creepiness, Agnes would very much appreciate the vibes of this book. And once you’ve finished this one, be sure to pick up Tantlinger’s new fiction collection, Cyanide Constellations, out now with Dark Matter Ink.

If you’re ready to show your claws like our resident werewolf Enid…

… then sink your fangs into Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison

The character of Enid is a fan favorite, and for good reason. She’s sweet but tough, a whimsical foil to Wednesday’s rain cloud. If you’re seeking out a werewolf novel that would be totally perfect for Enid’s nightstand, then definitely put Such Sharp Teeth on your TBR pile.

Wolfy protagonist Rory is basically a grown-up version of Enid: very much her own person and just trying to survive in a world that doesn’t always let you be yourself.

In fact, I’d love to see a mashup with Enid and Rory hanging out together on the full moon, claws and all. Fearsome females to be sure.

If you relate all too well to our heroine Wednesday…

… then you should definitely hang out with Psychopomp & Circumstance by Eden Royce

Wednesday Addams is nothing if not uncompromising. That’s one of the many reasons we love her: she’s so unapologetically who she is.

And just like Wednesday, Phee in Psychopomp & Circumstance is dedicated to being her own person and exploring the magic around her, even as she seems to always be clashing with her mother.

As two young women who are chafing against society’s expectations, Wednesday and Phee have a lot in common, so while you’re not-so-patiently waiting for Season Three of Wednesday, pick up Psychopomp & Circumstance in the meantime to keep the macabre party going.
