"We don’t know where she is, we don’t know where she was going, and we don’t know what happened to her.”

On February 9, 2004, 21-year-old Maura Murray vanished while traveling down a wintry stretch of New Hampshire’s Route 112. The mystery that unfolded in the wake of her disappearance has become a phenomenon, attracting the attention of civilians and professionals alike. The authors of a book, a multitude of blogs, Reddit forums, and podcasts galore have tried—and failed—to solve the mystery.

To this day, Maura’s unsolved disappearance continues to haunt her loved ones and captivate professional investigators from around the world. Now, Oxygen’s newest six-part series will examine this baffling cold case.

The Disappearance of Maura Murray promises an in-depth investigation into what may have happened to the young college student. Check out the trailer below:

Maura Murray’s disappearance dominated headlines in 2004. Yet it was the web of strange clues and unanswered questions that transfixed the public—and continues to inspire an impassioned scrutiny of the case.

On the day of her disappearance, Maura emailed her professors and supervisors at the University of Massachusetts Amherst stating that she needed to take a week off due to a death in the family. The claim was fabricated; Maura’s family knew of no such death.

Sometime around 3:30 P.M., Maura climbed into her car and drove north. Precisely where she was headed remains a mystery—printout directions to multiple locations were recovered from her car. Around 7:00 P.M., in Haverhill, New Hampshire, over two hours north of Amherst, a resident heard a heavy thump outside her home. She peered out her window to see a car crashed against a snow bank on Route 112.

Moments later, a local bus driver came upon the scene of the accident and spotted a young woman. It was Maura Murray. Maura asked the man not to call the police and eventually convinced him to leave, claiming she’d already called AAA for assistance. AAA has no record of a call.

At 7:46 P.M., police arrived at the scene. They found the car abandoned, with its driver, Maura Murray, nowhere to be seen.

What happened to Maura Murray? Did she want to disappear? Or, as Maura’s father maintains, did she encounter a dangerous individual on Route 112 that night?

The Disappearance of Maura Murray follows investigative journalist Maggie Freleng as she tracks new leads, interviews friends, family, and possible suspects, and dives headlong into the rabbit hole in an attempt to uncover the truth about Maura’s fate. The series premieres on Saturday, September 23 at 8:15 P.M. EST, 7:15 P.M. Central. To read more about The Disappearance of Maura Murray, go to oxygen.com.
