In 2013, the Curse of Chucky arrived on DVD and your on-demand boxes and scared the living daylights out of every viewer. This reboot brought back the pure horror of the original Child’s Play trilogy—no more comedy to cut the tension.
Today, we got the first trailer for the next installment in the franchise, Cult of Chucky, and Chucky is scarier than ever.
In this trailer, Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) explains his childhood, including the death of his babysitter, to a sympathetic ear. Barclay believes that Chucky has been disposed of. Nica, the protagonist of Curse of Chucky, has been convinced that Chucky truly was a delusion.
Before long, an evil doctor reveals his desire to unleash Chucky on the world, forcing Andy to come to Nica’s rescue. She has been trapped inside an asylum since the horrific murders of her family. The Cult of Chucky promises to follow in Curse of Chucky’s footsteps, while adding new components to the story—even Andy will end up in the asylum eventually, it seems.
Curse of Chucky has been acclaimed as one of the best straight to video sequels in a franchise. Will Cult of Chucky best its predecessor’s scares? We sure think so. Watch the trailer to see if you agree.
Cult of Chucky will be available on demand and on Blu-Ray/DVD on October 3rd.
