Brace yourself. Hulu’s upcoming horror movie Books of Blood is set for release next month, and we now have our first glimpse at all the darkness, death—and yes, all the blood—that awaits.
The upcoming film is based on horror mastermind Clive Barker's celebrated horror book series, Books of Blood. The six-volume set solidified Barker's status as a leading voice of modern horror. In the time since, the award-winning author has seen a number of his works adapted for the big screen. Among them, is Hellraiser, The Midnight Meat Train, and 1992's Candyman, which now has a spiritual sequel in the works directed by Nia DaCosta.

Hulu’s new production is not only based on Barker’s work, but also benefits from Barker's involvement as an executive producer. The upcoming picture twists together three of Barker's Blood tales into one feature-length narrative. It's directed by Brannon Braga and stars Britt Robertson, Rafi Gavron, Anna Friel, Yul Vazquez, and Freda Foh Shen.
The just released trailer opens with a medium trying to communicate with a young boy who has recently passed away. But as soon as the lights go out, the trailer plunges into darkness. A room is covered in messages scrawled in blood. Someone lies twitching on the floor. A creature emerges from a wall. And at every turn, are the dead. "They are so much closer than you realize."
