Nineteen years ago, Dexter Morgan first graced America’s TV screens in the pilot episode of Dexter.

An adaptation of Darkly Dreaming Dexter—the first in an eight-book series by Jeff Lindsay—the show spawned its own rabid audience and successful franchise.

Audiences were instantly drawn to the story of the charming and smart forensic analyst who channels his sociopathic tendencies towards the pursuit of justice, only killing criminals who haven't had to pay for their crimes.

Last year, Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel spinoff, premiered on Paramount+. While this show, set 15 years before the original Dexter, has been renewed for a second season, viewers are still left in a Dexter Morgan drought.

For longtime fans of Dexter who miss Michael C. Hall’s portrayal of vigilante justice, or those patiently awaiting season two of the prequel, we’ve compiled this list of books just like the Dexter series for you.

Grab one of these seven books like Dexter filled with violence, crime, lovable slashers, and engaging plot lines.

(NOTE: We've left the Dexter book series off this list as we're assuming most fans have already checked out the show's source material!)
