The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California has fascinated visitors for decades. Built by Sarah Winchester, the eccentric heiress to the Winchester Rifle fortune, this sprawling Victorian mansion contains stairs that lead to nowhere, doors that open onto three-story drops, and a séance room with one entrance and three exits. Sarah began building her mysterious dwelling in 1888 at the behest of a medium, who told her she had to continuously construct a home for the restless souls of all those shot down by Winchester gunfire.

Now, Helen Mirren will star in a truly spooky movie about the deaths, ghosts, and madness that drove Sarah to craft her mansion.

The first trailer for Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built was just released. The supernatural horror promises a terrifying look at the most haunted house in history.

Sarah (Helen Mirren) has been building her strange mansion for years. Shareholders in the Winchester Repeating Arms Company are worried that Sarah's obsession will lead to madness—though their "concern" may actually be a power grab. A doctor by the name of Eric Price (played by Jason Clarke) is summoned to the Winchester mansion to investigate Sarah's sanity.

Of course, it's not long before the skeptical Dr. Price realizes that Sarah Winchester is far from insane—the ghosts haunting her mansion are all too real. The trailer offers a creepy taste of the scares to come and a peek inside the Winchester Mystery House, including the séance room.

You can watch the trailer below, and see Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built in theaters on February 2, 2018.
