Have you been getting a little too comfortable? Don't worry, some terrifying true stories are on the way to keep you looking over your shoulder.
The true crime documentary series Unsolved Mysteries first premiered in 1987. Exploring cold cases and inexplicable phenomena, the series quickly gained a loyal cult following.
With more than 600 episodes under its belt, the series was revived time and time again. Most recently, the series saw a Netflix reboot in 2020.
Now Netflix has brought you the perfect gift for spooky season: Unsolved Mysteries Volume 5. Four new cases are ready for you to investigate—streaming now on Netflix.
Terry Dunn, the series creator, promises that this volume is packed with more evidence than any of the prior volumes. That means you at-home sleuths just may help authorities solve these cases—or at least you'll be able to spin some well-supported conspiracies.
In the first episode, “Park Bench Murders,” viewers will be drawn into the mystery of a double homicide that took place in broad daylight in Cleveland, Ohio back in 2019.
The victims were Carnell Sledge and Katherine Brown, a pair of friends that were meeting up in the Cleveland Metroparks’ Rocky River Reservation for an unknown reason.
The pair were shot from behind, seemingly with no motive. Despite the murder occurring alongside a busy roadway, there also appear to be no witnesses.
The second episode, “My Paranormal Partner,” follows Don Philips, a paranormal researcher who has the ability to communicate with spirits. He investigates hauntings with the help of an unexpected assistant—a spirit named Becky.
This episode delivers a juicy twist when it seems Becky may have been dishonest with Don about who she truly is.
“Mysterious Mutilations” is the third episode of the volume. This case centers around the unusual spate of cattle mutilations taking place in Oregon—an unsettling occurrence that stretches back for decades.
Thousands of cases have been reported across the United States and Canada, but this episode focuses on the experiences of two cattle ranchers: M.T. Anderson and Mat Carter. Both ranchers have had livestock cut up, displaying strangely precise incisions with tongues or organs missing.
In these instances, there was no evidence of an animal attack. In fact, there was no blood at the scene at all.
Though theories vary from UFOs to cult rituals, there are currently no suspects in these disturbing crimes.
The final episode is “The Roswell UFO Incident,” which takes a deep dive into the strange debris discovered in New Mexico in 1947. As the Air Force arrived on the scene and gathered the debris, it's believed the government engaged in a coverup of alien activity.
