UFOs or (unidentified flying objects) have been spotted since time immemorial. People have always looked up at the night sky, wondering if there are other planets in other galaxies inhabited by some form of sentient life.

Sometimes that strange moving object among the stars might be just another comet or meteor, but sometimes, it could really be an alien spaceship.

Since the 1950s, there have been several reported cases of alien abductions—while some were definitely hoaxes and some secretive military operations, other accounts seem stranger than fiction.

We bring you a list of some of the strangest UFO abductions and kidnappings recorded in the last century that have garnered significant media attention.

Elizabeth Klarer

Elizabeth Klarer was a South African woman who claimed to have been contacted by aliens multiple times between 1954 and 1963, although her first encounter with an extraterrestrial happened when she was just seven. She was also one of the first women to claim to have had a sexual relationship with an alien—in this case, a spaceman called Akon.

Elizabeth claimed to be pregnant and delivered a son, Alying on Akon’s home planet, Meton. Some two decades later, Klarer published a book Beyond the Light Barrier where she not only goes into detail about her extraterrestrial encounters but also advocates for love, peace and environmentalism.

Robert Taylor incident (Dechmont Woods Encounter)

Most encounters with UFOs seem to occur in rural areas or places vastly empty of humans, and without the presence of local witnesses or photographic evidence, such incidents, no matter how convincingly reported, become hard to corroborate. In this regard, the Robert Taylor incident is a bit unique, as it actually became a matter of criminal investigation.

Robert Taylor, a forester, was on his way home when he saw a “flying dome” that tried to pull him aboard. Taylor returned home, with his clothes torn and covered in grazes on his chin and thighs.

Thus, Taylor was definitely assaulted by someone or got into some accident with a sharp object—and both scenarios could have had an alien origin.

Barney and Betty Hill (Zeta Reticuli Incident)

One of the most publicized cases of alien abduction, the Hill abduction continues to be referenced and discussed in popular culture. Barney and Betty Hill were American civil rights activists who claimed to have been abducted by aliens from September 19 to 20, 1961.

Apparently, the couple were driving back home from a vacation when they witnessed an alien craft shaped like a “huge pancake” before them, out of which eight to eleven humanoid figures peered out.

Strange events continued to occur to the couple, and Betty even experienced a series of vivid dreams shortly after the encounter. The couple not only provided a detailed account of their experiences to authorities but also went under hypnosis.

Ufologists even connected the star map in Betty’s account to the Zeta Reticuli system. Their story was turned into a bestselling book, The Interrupted Journey and a television film, The UFO Incident (1975).

Antônio Vilas-Boas

While the United States appears to be a hotbed for stories involving UFO kidnappings, such cases have been reported all over the globe. The case of Antônio Vilas-Boas, a farmer and later, a lawyer, unfolded in the open fields of São Francisco de Sales in Brazil.

At the time, Antônio was just 23, ploughing the fields at night when he spotted a “red star” in the sky that turned out to be an alien spaceship. He was grabbed by a blue-eyed humanoid alien, dragged inside the ship, and subjected to a variety of examinations.

He was stripped, covered in a strange gel, and blood samples were taken. Antônio even claimed to have had sex with an attractive female alien who gestured that she would raise their child in space, before he was escorted out of the ship.

Though Antônio later became a lawyer, married, and had four children, he maintained his account of alien abduction throughout his life.

1973 saw a rush of UFO reports in the US South, out of which the Pascagoula incident remains the most notable.

Two men, Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker, were fishing near Pascagoula, Mississippi, when they saw an “oval-shaped” craft. The duo were taken aboard the ship by three creatures with pincers, examined, and then subsequently released.

Hickson later became a UFO celebrity and claimed to have several more encounters with aliens, while Parker released a book in 2018, providing a full first-hand account of the incident and how it affected the rest of his life.

The Meng Zhaoguo Incident

Finally, the Meng Zhaoguo Incident took place at Phoenix Mountain in Wuchang, Heilongjiang, in 1994. Meng Zhaoguo and a relative had followed a strange object—initially they thought it was a weather balloon—and later, he was struck by an intense beam of light.

Meng Zhaoguo continued to be harassed by aliens, was taken to their spacecraft to copulate, and was even shown pictures of Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 striking Jupiter. He passed a lie detector test in 2003, and his story continues to be believed by UFO enthusiasts.
