The first official trailer for the Korean zombie horror movie Peninsula just dropped, and for fans of its predecessor, Train to Busan, this minute-and-a-half teaser raises the action-horror stakes across the board.
Released in 2016, Train to Busan delivered a propulsive story of intimate terror as it followed a man and his daughter struggling to survive a zombie outbreak on a packed commuter train. Peninsula takes place four years after the events of the first movie and dives deep into what our post-apocalyptic zombie outbreak world looks like.
Spoiler alert: It is bonkers and bloody in the best way possible.

The Korean peninsula is a chewed-up shell of its former self—an endless slum of devastation overrun by the undead. In this post-apocalyptic world, survivors fight to stay alive by any means necessary. The living certainly aren’t taking things lying down, but they aren't necessarily being kind toward one another, either.

Peninsula pivots away from the claustrophobic tension of Train to Busan. Yet the sequel maintains its predecessor's exploration of human behavior, questioning the many ways in which people help or abandon one another in times of crisis. In the trailer, we catch glimpses of frantic car chases, explosive action sequences, and what appears to be a human vs. zombie horde cage match, Beyond Thunderdome-style. Indeed, director Yeon Sang-ho cites the savage survivalist landscapes of Mad Max and Mad Max: Fury Road as influences for Peninsula. The upcoming movie follows Jung-seok (Gang Don-won), a former soldier who's sent into the dead zone on a life-or-death retrieval mission. He soon comes upon a group of uninfected. But his mission is waylaid when he attempts to help them, and discovers that some people who survived the apocalypse are far from what he expected.
A release date for Peninsula hasn’t been announced yet, but this action-packed horror flick is one to look out for.
