There’s a new murder-mystery movie project on Kickstarter that needs your money – but this one comes with an queer twist.
Director Casper Andreas (Going Down in LA-LA Land) and screenwriter David Michael Barrett (Such Good People) took inspiration for their film Kiss Me, Kill Me from Alfred Hitchcock and Agatha Christie plots (both men claim to have read all her books by 12 years old). But in their version of the classic whodunit, the crime takes place in West Hollywood and the list of suspects includes “Tough Lesbian Detective” and “Drag Queen Femme Fatale.”
Kiss Me, Kill Me‘s plot centers around Dusty, an unlucky hero with a cheating boyfriend. While confronting his unfaithful lover, Dusty blacks out, then wakes up to find the scoundrel’s been murdered – and everyone thinks he did it.
Andreas and Barrett have already nabbed a talented cast, including Gale Harold (Queer as Folk), Van Hansis (Eastsiders), Willam (RuPaul’s Drag Race), and Brianna Brown (Devious Maids). And they’re offering backers a virtual grab-bag of Hollywood-themed experiences, like online chats with members of the cast, producer credits, and an invite to the red-carpet premiere.
Watch the producers describe their movie below, then check out their Kickstarter page to help fund the project.
