I had the incredible privilege of attending New York Comic Con this past weekend, and let me tell you, the horror offerings were incredible.
Beyond the mind-blowing autographs and photo opportunities, the impressive spooky wares about the show floor and artists alley, and the gasp-worthy horror cosplays each day, the panels dropped some massive news perfect for spooky season.
Want to know about your next favorite horror show before it airs? Hoping to know what to expect coming to theaters next year?
Here is every piece of horror news from New York Comic Con you should know.
A First Look at Crystal Lake
One of the most exciting panels at NYCC this year was the Crystal Lake panel on Thursday night. Before a Q&A with the cast and showrunner, we got to see the full first episode of the eight-part Season 1 before the entire series drops on Thursday, October 15th.
If you're a fan of the original films and think you know everything there is to know about Jason and his mother, then you're so wrong. Creator Brad Caleb Kane let us know that the show fills in a lot of the gaps in the lore that exists in the franchise, as well as expanding upon it.
The show's focus is, of course, to go deeper into Pamela Voorhees than we see in the first movie, getting into the psychology of her and how she transforms from a loving, kind mother into a killer that takes glee in violence.
As a whole, the show dives much deeper into character and emotion, fleshing out the town and its people so you really care about what's going on—and who's involved.
That said, the show is incredibly gruesome—as one might expect from the Friday the 13th franchise. But caring about the characters just makes the horrific and creative deaths hit even harder.
Having seen the first episode, I can tell you that the series is absolutely worth the watch. It has all the elements of the movie franchise that die hard fans love, but brings something fresh and new to the story at the same time.
And of course, Linda Cardellini is an absolute force to be reckoned with.
An Exclusive Look at Violent Night 2
Ahead of the Blumfest panel this year, con-goers were given a brief Q&A with the cast and creatives of Violent Night 2, as well as a sneak peek of some never before seen clips.
Without spoiling too much, I can tell you that this holiday sequel contains one of the most gruesome scenes you'll ever see take place in a bakery.
This go-around, Santa has lost his Christmas magic and is trapped in a shopping mall as hitmen come in droves to take him out. It's terrible timing, considering he's trying to lay off on the violence.
Luckily, he has Mrs. Clause (played by the incredible Kristen Bell) to get him out of the sticky situation. Audiences can look forward to learning about Mrs. Clause's past, and according to Bell herself, she is a woman much older even than Santa.
Mrs. Clause brings her own unique fighting style to the film with a deadly sword, and also brings a fresh dose of charisma and humor.
From what little we got to see, it looks like a fun and violent (obviously) romp that will delight any horror fan come Christmastime.
The Packed Movie Schedule of Blumhouse and Atomic Monster
A ton of trailers and news came out of Blumfest this year, and my spooky heart couldn't be more excited! Here are the projects you can expect to see from the merged studios in 2027:
River—January 15th
We got a first look at the trailer, which is available to watch now.
The movie follows a trio of siblings who go to spread the ashes of a lost loved one and end up stranded on a boat on a country river. To make things worse, they're then stalked by a relentless faceless killer.
The trailer delivers taut tension that bodes well for a suffocating film. One of the film's stars, horror icon Jessica Rothe, promised plenty of family drama amidst the horror to crank the anxiety up even further.
The Revenge of La Llorona—February 26th
The Exorcist: Martyrs—March 12th
At the Blumhouse panel, we also got to see the brand-new trailer for Mike Flanagan's The Exorcist: Martyrs, which is available to watch now.
In a brief conversation with Flanagan, we learned that it was important to him that this film was the scariest movie he's ever personally made. He assured us that he fully believes he succeeded in that goal.
He also went on to say that this addition to the franchise is unlike any other Exorcist movie we know.
The trailer is dark, gruesome, and immediately terrifying. Even as someone who likes but doesn't love The Exorcist movies, I'm very excited to see what this film delivers.
Anything But Ghosts—May 7th
Fresh off the success of Obsession, filmmakers Curry Barker and Cooper Tomlinson have another horror film in the works at Blumhouse.
This film brings a bit more of a playful edge than their 2026 hit, following a pair of con men posing as paranormal investigators. The duo run into very-real danger when they're brought to a haunted house that really has ghosts, and they have to deliver on the promises they have no way of cashing in.
This film will star Barker and Tomlinson themselves, alongside Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul, and others.
Paranormal Activity—May 21st
While very little information was given on this project, we did get confirmation that not only is the film currently in the works, that is intended to be a return to the tone of the original film.
The film is written and directed by Ian Tuason.
Molepeople—August 27th
Originally mentioned in the panel as an untitled project, we got the big title reveal: Molepeople.
Director Rob Savage and star LaKeith Stanfield teased a little bit about the project, which is being brought to us by Paramount Primal.
The film follows a man who finds himself on an unsettling journey beneath New York City in its forgotten subway tunnels. Here he discovers a dark and twisted society which he must fight to survive.
Blair Witch Project—September 24th
Sleepover—October 8th
Seasons—November 12th
This film, directed by Drew Hancock, stars Lily James, Ron Perlman, Jack Reynor, and more.
The movie is based off of the viral short story "My Wife and I Bought a Ranch" by Matt Query, originally posted in the r/nosleep Reddit.
As expected, in the film a married couple purchase a ranch, but soon discover that the land is possessed by ancient spirits. In order to survive, they must participate in deeply disturbing rituals.
In other news:
Not every project mentioned at the Blumhouse panel had a premiere date, as plenty of them were early in development.
One of the first announcements of the evening was that internet personality MatPat is teaming up with Blumhouse studios to bring our favorite indie video games to the big screen. The first project in development is Amanda the Adventurer, a project which is currently engaging in talks with writers and directors.
Horror queen and viral content creator Heidi Wong is also in collaboration with the studio. She's currently writing and directing a short film that could potentially be expanded into a feature project.
According to Wong, she's been teasing the film with butterfly imagery for months. The story is said to be based on eastern mythology and folklore.
For fans of the Saw franchise, there's some pretty big news. Another installment is being worked on, and its important to Wan that it feels like a true Saw movie, going back to the basics.
James Wan and Leigh Whannell are confirmed to be a part of the return to the franchise, with Mike P. Nelson slated to direct.
We also got news of an adaptation of the hit horror comic Something is Killing the Children. The feature film is being directed by Craig Zobel.
The film is set to go into production next year, and we have two confirmations for what we can expect: children will be dying, and Octo is definitely going to be there.
Finally, if you've been hoping to catch the Paranormal Activity play on Broadway, it has officially been extended through February 28th, 2027.
