Beloved YA horror author Diane Hoh passed away on Monday, August 25th after a prolonged illness. At the time of her death, Hoh was 88 years old—and she had lived a life that assuredly made good use of her time on this earth.
Throughout her career, Hoh penned 57 novels for young adults, starting with Loving That O'Connor Boy, which was published in 1985. She was most well-known for her success with the 29-part Nightmare Hall series, which followed the goings-on of a university enmeshed in dark secrets, as well as two hit novels following a couple's thrilling escape from a historic tragedy, Titanic: The Long Night and Remembering the Titanic.
In addition to being a prolific writer with a distinct voice, Hoh was also the author behind many people's first horror books. She made the genre accessible to the younger generation, introducing readers to a love for the macabre that would last a lifetime for many of us.
Hoh is survived by three children, Barry Hydeman, Jennifer Howard, and Martin Hoh, as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her memory will be cherished by her family, and her profound impact on YA horror will never fade.
