Literally the only good thing to have come from this now dwindling pandemic is the veritable treasure trove of movies and TV shows sent straight to streaming platforms. On June 25, 2021, A24's False Positive, starring Ilana Glazer (Broad City) will debut on Hulu. The film, which plays off of the fears associated with fertility and childbirth, is Glazer's first dip into the horror genre and, given the subject matter, and the fact that she herself is currently pregnant, it's gonna be an emotionally harrowing ride that we can't wait to experience from the sidelines, sans actual birthing and baby.
Discussing the general theme of the film in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Glazer says "It's about how the patriarchy is expressed through medicine." Regarding her character Lucy, who is struggling with IVF, the currently pregnant actress hints at the hell she's put through in the film saying "I'm lucky; I'm in control, unlike our protagonist."

Directed and written by John Lee, and co-written by Glazer herself, the film also stars Sophia Bush, Pierce Brosnan, and Justin Theroux as Adrian, husband to Glazer's character Lucy. In a press release from Hulu, the plot of the film is described as such:
“After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Ilana Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle's gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” As if getting pregnant weren't complicated enough…”
In an interview with The Cut, director Lee said he was inspired to make the film after his wife suffered a miscarriage. “I would talk to some of my friends about having the miscarriage, and people were like, ‘We did, too,' Lee says to The Cut. "I’m like, ‘How come no one’s ever talking about this?’ I really started to examine our lack of empathy and support within our health-care system. We just don’t give a shit about mental health. And all those threads started to align."
