Gerald’s Game may be one of King’s lesser-known novels—but it still delivers plenty of twisted terror. Little wonder, then, that the psychological horror thriller is getting the cinematic treatment in 2017. It's arriving on Netflix this September, and the trailer just dropped.

Gerald and Jessie Burlingame head off for a romantic getaway. They intend to reinvigorate their love life, both physically and emotionally. Soon after arriving at a secluded cabin, Gerald handcuffs Jessie to the bed.

Although initially game, Jessie panics as Gerald begins to caress her, eventually kicking him off of her. Gerald then has a heart attack, collapses to the floor, and dies. Jessie is left alone. In the middle of nowhere. With no one to hear her scream.

Mike Flanagan, the filmmaker behind the excellent horror flick Hush, helms this adaptation as both writer and director. Carla Gugino stars as Jessie, while Bruce Greenwood costars as Gerald, who continues to appear after death in Jessie’s visions.

As Jessie fights to free herself she must also struggle to stay sane. Soon, a bloodthirsty dog, a mysterious man who may or may not be real, and Jessie’s past all come to haunt her. If the trailer is any indication, the movie will be a freaky watch—one that combines the suspense of Flanagan’s Hush with the kind of twisted terror that could only come from King.

In fact, Stephen King caught a rough cut of the Netflix adaptation back in February. He called it “horrifying, hypnotic, terrific.”

Check out the trailer below—it seems that King’s praise is justified.

Gerald’s Game will be released on Netflix September 29th.
